Opportunities for Service for our Community:

Hospitality House We have long been a partner with Hospitality House, but our options for 2022 have slightly changed. We are no longer serving a once a month dinner at Utah’s Place. Instead, here are some actions you might like to take…

Cooking in the kitchen (as a single, with another group)—Requires no experience; proof of COVID-19 vaccination and boosters; mask wearing inside shelter/kitchen; food safe certification (reimbursement from Hospitality House available!); gloves/hairnets while handling food/cooking.

Grocery Shopping—Requires: Proof of COVID 19 vaccination and boosters; mask wearing inside shelter/kitchen; driver’s license and ability to drive one’s car to Grocery Outlet/similar store; shop from a provided grocery list; pay for groceries up front and deliver to the shelter. Volunteers are reimbursed for all groceries upon turning in their receipt.

Meal delivery – Requires: Proof of COVID 19 vaccination and boosters; mask wearing inside shelter/kitchen/Sierra Guest Home; driver’s license and ability to load pre-packaged food into one’s own vehicle; driving from Utah’s Place (homeless shelter) to Sierra Guest Home (Hospitality House’s senior housing facility); carrying food inside Sierra Guest Home. Shift’s are available daily at 11:30 am and 4:30 pm. Great for volunteers with limited time to spare!

Dishwashing – Requires NO EXPERIENCE! Proof of COVID 19 vaccination and boosters; mask wearing inside shel-ter/kitchen.

First step in becoming a Hospitality House volunteer
, fill out an application at https://hhshelter.org/volunteer/. All Hospitality House volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Those from ages 14-17 must have an adult volunteer present with them at all times. Questions? Call (530) 615-0852 or email info@hhshelter.org.

Habitat for Humanity

Our church has a once a month commitment for lunch for the Construction Crew of our local Habitat Affiliate. There is a sign-up in the Fellowship Hall. We provide sandwiches, fruit, and cookies on the second Saturday. Just write your name and phone number on the list and you will get a phone call with details!

You may also help with actual construction on the houses being built (we’re beginning 12 houses in Heritage Oaks 2). Construction usually is done on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There is great instruction provided! If interested, call Ian Nansen, (650) 269-6273.

coordinator, Jan Alessi-Marrer

The IFM website has a tab “volunteer application”
that shows all of the volunteer positions and a form to fill out and submit online. Also, people can just go there any morning and help with whatever they need. That’s what I usually do. They are open every morning except Sundays now. They need people to pack up bags of supplies for distribu-tion, people to fill carts with the groceries for the families that come to get food, and people to drive around to stores and pick up donated food. They are very short on help right now and the holiday season creates an increased workload.
